Running Accomplishments:

Until recently I've never contemplated running beyond 5K.

5K: 27:02 (my first "PR" ...sad huh!)

10K ... ??

HALF ...??

MARATHON ...???

Short-Term Running Goals:

Las Vegas is canceled ... we are going to run races closer to home. My goal is to fix my form and be consistent.

My wife and I have decided to train for the Las Vegas marathon in December 09.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to qualify for Boston. Maybe try to see how fast I can be?

Personal:

My wife is the "real" runner in the family and has done Boston twice, but many years ago. She wants to get back to training and I just want to eh... start.

Wow, a surprisingly good run today even in the 80-degree heat w/ humidity.

I decided to wear the Asics and just go out and see how I felt, focusing on applying some of my barefoot techniques while wearing the shoes. In a nutshell:

 1) Shorten the stride to help land toward the forefoot. Keep trying for faster cadence/turnover.

2) Keep the forward lean (at the ankles), avoid leaning back and heel striking

3) Keep upright form, but relax, relax, relax!

I turned in 3 miles at an average 8:30 pace, so in effect this became a tempo run of sorts for me, but it felt great and I had no odd clicks or clacks in my achilles.

A weird sensation is that after spending so much time this week either barefoot or in the VFFs that the Asics felt clunky. When I first purchased them they seemed "light".  They sure do provide great cushion though!  They're very new still, and now I'm feeling I may have made a mistake getting them instead of a lighter racing flat or something that would be easier to transition between barefoot/VFF.  Sigh.
